Symbol of Love

One alone in the black of night, two hearts,
Exchange from love its feelings.

Pure and honest as lovers,
The symbol of love, true, pure and clean.

Sighing, from pain of remoteness pitied,
Fighting yearning, wretched longing.

Sublime their love, intimacy owes debt,
Settled its claims who for death are patient.

The greatest intimacy a soul in two bodies,
Joined, by them the world inhabited.

Overcame silence, spoke the eye to the eye,
Words, never could a poet compose.

If unable the beauty of words to speak, by love revealed,
In silence, how sweet the words of eyes.

Her refuge, his heart, in it she settled,
Rules and decrees, from it she commands and prevents.

And the harbour of his woes, between two shores,
In her eye sails his love and journeys.

A love pure and sublime between two lovers,
Each for their beloved, from fear, watchful.

Hiding her name from near and far,
A secret by which survive morals.

She conceals in her eyes his dearness, between eyelids,
Guarding his name, an eye like a sword, sharp.

How sweet the love between two souls concealed,
Oh you who wish yearning proclaimed and known.

Love of the body fades, too briefly lasts,
Vanishes, love of the soul everlasting, triumphant.
