I heard on the phone but saw not,
A voice which awakens the crippled and sick.
With prompt greeting commenced and I acknowledged,
Oh my good fortune and luck.
Oh addax, seeing you, I am overjoyed,
And the affection of your voice and tone.
Love such as yours I have not seen,
Commanding the midst of my soul and breath.
And I am obedient to you and submit,
Obedience of a camel when taken by the rein.
Oh master, always dear, though imperious still dear,
You are cherished above all others.
At dusk and in the evening I met,
One who has the aspects of white gazelle.
When they approach or you towards them come,
Extend a welcome to one of gracious descent.
Fruits of closeness I did not taste,
And I pity them, this last year.
Futile for the prisoner, a wish,
Nor relieves the oppressed, a tyrant.
Oh how I persevered and how I wished,
And intimacy, prevented by constant absence.
Your intent is absence, or do you pretend?
Or to condemn me to death is your aim?
